Soup Season: Midtown Global Market & Gear Resource

This past weekend I took an hour out to explore the Midtown Global Market and taste 10 amazing soups (there were 12, but since I got there right before they closed 2 were sold out). It was a bargain for $3 you got little shots from 12 restaurants, many of which feature these all year. The crowd favorite was the Chicken Curry at Sabbai Cuisine, and I agree it was outstanding.  Actually, I wasn't disappointed by any that I tried.  My personal favs were:

  • Fresco's Pasta Bar- Sausage Potato Kale Soup (featured on Kare 11 w/ recipe)
  • Holy Land's - Arabian Lentil Soup
  • The Rabbit Hole- which they ran out of the duck wild rice soup (also on Kare 11), I loved the pork bone broth they were serving as a substitute... it was delicious on its own.  Who wants to check out this restaurant with me?
Fox9 also had the Fideo Chicken Soup recipe from El Burrito Mercado.  I would suggest buying a Salty Tart baguette to go with the soups. :)

I also wanted to link to my friend Nikki's tomato soup recipe.  I think it is one of the best I've had.  No more Campbell's soup for me! Nikki and her husband own a great outfitters that does snowshoeing and winery tours (and brewery tours).  It was an adventure, as you don't go on trails, just up and down ravines and streams.  My mom and I brought up the rear, and Nikki was so sweet with words of encouragement.  Plus, their two dogs that run from the front to the back of the pack to make sure we all are okay are adorable.  I'm going to make their soup this weekend! They often have Groupons, so check them out!
